Top Tips for Sending Mail Overseas

Sending mail overseas can be a tricky process. It can be a long, arduous process and packages can be easily lost in the system. Here, you’ll find some top tips on how to minimize this risk and successfully send mail overseas.

Addressing

When addressing a package that you intend to send overseas, it is absolutely vital that you make it clear and easy to read. There are a lot more opportunities for misunderstandings to occur and for things to be lost never to be found, so always be clear with your spelling and handwriting. In addition, it is also of extreme importance that the name of the country you are sending the parcel to must be written on the last line of the address in CAPITALS.

Correct Postage Payment

Always ensure that you are using the right tariff when sending a parcel overseas. There is a difference in type and cost with domestic and overseas postage, so it is important that you use international postage rates (this also applies to the Republic of Ireland). Domestic rates are lower, meaning that if you pay these there will be a delay in the delivery of your package, as they attempt to figure out where you want it to go.

Customs Declaration

When sending a package to a country outside of the EU, it is important to remember to fill out a customs declaration form. These forms must be filled out for each individual package and attached with them when they are sent. Failure to do so can lead to significant delays in delivery, and could lead to them being sent back to you when they first arrive in the overseas country.
